Zambia's Daka Nets Late Goal for Zambia Versus Mali at Afcon.

Zambia's striker heads home late

Patson Daka brought to a close a lengthy goal dry spell for Zambia with his late header in Casablanca.

Patson Daka proved to be the hero for his nation as his injury-time header secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against Mali at the Afcon 2025 in Morocco.

Eagles Seize First-Half Lead

Lassine Sinayoko had put Mali ahead shortly after the 60-minute mark in the Group A clash at the Stade Mohammed V, drilling home from close range after his initial attempt from a corner kick had been blocked.

The Eagles controlled the tempo and had an opportunity to take the lead in the closing stages of the opening period after a Malian forward was fouled in the penalty area by Zambian defender Matthews Banda.

El Bilal Toure took responsibility for Mali but his low effort was expertly kept out by Zambia goalkeeper Willard Mwanza.

The Striker's Heroic Intervention

The Leicester City man eventually salvaged a point for the former champions, who were largely overwhelmed by the aerial strength of their opponents until Banda's pinpoint pass was pounced upon by the forward.

Tournament Outlook

This draw means both sides two points behind tournament hosts Morocco in the group standings after Morocco claimed victory in their opening game 2-0 against the Coelacanths on Sunday.

Zambia will remain in Casablanca to play their next game against Comoros on the coming Friday, while The Eagles journey to Rabat for a crucial match against Morocco.
