Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their roles in the latest Hunger Games series instalment, Sunrise on the Reaping.
Reports indicate that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
An Important Return to Panem
The actors are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their cameos will take the form of a flash-forward sequence, given that the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.
This marks the sixth film in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
Delving Into the Prequel
Sunrise on the Reaping draws its story from a recent book by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who directed most of the previous films in the series.
The Plot and New Cast
The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several prominent actors in important characters:
- Jesse Plemons steps into the role of Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes takes on the part of a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson is part of the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the shoot:
- Principal photography began in the summer of 2025.
- Filming concluded in November of the same year.
- The highly anticipated film is scheduled for November 2026 premiere.
Moviegoers can now anticipate the return of these defining characters to the cinema.
